In Italy there are 37 undergraduate courses with only one student and 327 faculty with a maximum of 15 students. In 2001 there were 2,444 degree programs, today there are 5,500, almost double. In other countries the average is half that. 170 000 subjects are taught, twice the average euroea. Result: no Italian university is among the 15 best in the world. (From "La Stampa )
